St. Andrew's United Church

In 1995, the congregations of Brant Avenue United and Zion United Churches voted to amalgamate. The church's agreed to worship at the Darling Street location and the Brant Avenue building was sold. A devestating fire in 2006 gave rise to another restoration project. In 2011, the congregations of Wesley and St. Andrew's amalgamated, retaining the name of St. Andrew's United Church.

January 24, 2006

On the night of January 24, 2006, a fire gutted the sanctuary side of the church and the Community Centre side was extensively damaged by smoke and water. The congregation did not miss a beat. The Sunday immediately following the fire, congregation began worship in the auditorium at the W. Ross MacDonald School. They also immediately found office space and secured locations for the Soup for the Soul program and methadone clinic at Grace Anglican. In 2007, the resotration of the Community Centre was completed and the congregation moved back downtown. The new church building was officially opened on May 3, 2009.
