St. Andrew's Concert Series

The 2018-2019 Concert Series
Our second annual concert series promises even more fabulous entertainment and artists from around the province at your doorstep in beautiful Downtown Brantford.
Friday, October 26th, 7:00pm. Movie & Music. Suggested donation: $15.00.

The St. Andrew's Concert Series presents composer/pianist Robert Bruce, as he performs his live original score to the 1926 classic silent film "The General". Inspired by The Great Locomotive Chase, which happened in 1862, Buster Keaton's "The General" (1926), an adventure-epic classic made towards the end of the silent era and considered by Keaton to be his greatest achievement, is also considered by critics to be one of the greatest films ever made.

In a 2002 poll of critics and filmmakers on the best films ever made, critic Roger Ebert listed it on his top 10. It is also on his list of Great Movies. It was ranked number 1 in a list of the 100 greatest films of the silent era by the website www.silentera.com

Composer/pianist Robert Bruce's live score for "The General" follows the story and action pretty closely, weaving in and out of a variety of musical moods and styles ranging from the "Jazz Age" sounds and cinema chase scenes popular in the 20s to more reflective and descriptive neo-classical sketches.
